So a couple of weeks ago I turned my three seater couch into a two seater couch. That worked out well (in the end) and now I am noticing that my throw pillows are pretty sad and flat. I bought most of these second hand after our last move – so they weren’t new when I got them. Several years of wear and tear later they are pretty sad. But – you know that I don’t like to throw things away so I got out my stich ripper and opened them up.

On the left is the origional pillow. On the right, two restuffed ones.

It’s not a hard process but the whole thing does take a couple of days. You have to open up the pillows. I took advantage and washed them. I fluffed up the stuffing and put it in a pillow case with an elastic at the opening. I tied a knot the first time and the knot opened up and spilled loose stuffing in the washing machine. This was not a disaster but an annoying clean up. The stuffing gets washed and dried (with a couple of tennis balls in the dryer to keep it fluffy) and then stuffed back in the pillows. I made 3 new fluffy and full pillows from 4 old flat ones and had just one old cover left over for the landfill.

…try new things, fix stuff, get your hands dirty, read about everything and live life the most that you possibly can while still being as kind as possible – to people and to the world around you.
